Transition of Officers

  -- posted: 23 MAY 2016

Team,

I wanted to pass to you as we transition from one officer team to another, first thanks for all you have done and will continue to do and stepping up for the good of the order. Great job this weekend with the Pork Loin, Herbs coordination, marketing and logistics was superb and all his effort and organization of the post membership led to a successful earning of ~$2200. The weather wasn't the worse or best, but looking at the remaining food we only were left with about 30 meals. I think that is great in terms of planning the right amount of food.

We have several scheduling / events changes that I wanted to ensure you know about.

This Memorial weekend we will cancel the breakfast, so next breakfast is 11 JUN.

The Memorial Day Ceremony lead by the AL Post 49 will be 1100am May 30th at the Smithfield Veterans Memorial. I will be the guest speaker and we have been asked for 6 volunteers, we have 3 of 6 so still looking for others to participate.

The next events are June 4th at Windsor Park to support the MS Bike ride, with a parking detail. Marsha is the lead and needs about 6 folks to support. Following this event is the Adopt a Highway clean up lead by Dan Wilson 359-8539. The JROTC has lined up a large crew to support so we need several "chaperones" to ensure safety. Please contact Marsha Oliver or Dan Wilson if you know of others that can support their two events.

State and National conventions are around the corner, please review the General Orders to get the details. 94th ANNUAL CONVENTION DEPARTMENT OF VIRGINIA VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS OF THE UNITED STATES RAMADA WILLIAMSBURG EAST, WILLIAMSBURG, VIRGINIA JUNE 16-19, 2016 and NATIONAL CONVENTION 23-27 JULY IN CHARLOTTE.

We have the Olden Days on June 25 and Tim Shumaker is our lead with this event with Howard supporting. He has the health department application and the town application has already been submitted. We will need to buy hotdogs and get the buns from our contact that supplies us for free. So only overhead at this point is the hotdogs, chili, condiments (which we have most on hand) and propane.

I asked to schedule the "Veteran in Need" event at True Value with Carter Williams as the lead on 30 July. Still coordination is needed but that's the date as of now. This will be to refill our Veteran Relief Funds that have already been provided to our member in need last meeting. We will place our matured CD in the fund for now in case others needs arise. Karl will provide details at next meeting.

These are the near term events and wanted to ensure all know what I know and we keep up the communications in the future. Cheers to you all.

Giddy Up!
Chris

Team:

I am asking for 6 volunteers for the American Legion Post 49 Memorial Day Service, 1100 hours, at the Smithfield Veterans Monument. Reception follows at post 49 (dogs/burgers). I will be the guest speaker this year, so would like to see the mutual support provided as they support our Veterans Day ceremony.

Thanks,

Commander
